The value of a great partnership

Partner with QRILL Aqua
By Qrill Aqua, February 26, 2018

In Aker BioMarine, we believe in building a stronger relationship with our partners. Instead of short-term business transactions, long-term customer partnerships are important to identify key industry challenges and put our heads together to solve them, says EVP QRILL Sales Sigve Nordrum.

Since 2011, BioMar and Aker BioMarine have collaborated together to push the aquaculture feed industry forward. We have been working together to develop an advanced high-performance salmon feed using QRILL Aqua as a key component. The partnership has been a great success so far and the future is exciting for the valuable collaboration.

INNOVATION GRANT

An example of this type of cooperation is an innovation grant of USD 1.9 million that BioMar and Aker BioMarine obtained together with other industry partners to unlock the nutritional and technical quality potential of marine components from krill and other sources used in sustainable salmonid feed.

This innovation project addressed two current aquaculture challenges:

  1. Promoting eco-responsible farmed production that efficiently employs underutilized marine raw materials
  2. Developing future feeds that promote superior fish performance and health

COOPERATION IN PRACTICE

In February, Dr. Tibiabin Benítez-Santana and Vice President of Sales Americas, Ian Bouchard visited BioMar, Chile to participate in their “Science ON” program. Here scientists have been able to interact with different specialists and decision makers of the aquaculture industry. Customers as well as national researchers have discussed topics related to aquaculture industry such as nutrition, health, sustainability and innovation.

At Aker BioMarine we strive for excellence in research; we understand that science benefits from, not only the latest techniques, but also, the latest real-world data,

Dr. Tibiabin Benítez-Santana explains: "At Aker BioMarine we strive for excellence in research; we understand that science benefits from, not only the latest techniques, but also, the latest real-world data. Krill is one of the best sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, and its impact on freshwater and marine fish health and performance is integral to our science. We are thankful to our many partners worldwide for providing the data that allows us identify and solve the problems of the rapidly growing aquaculture industry."

The objective of the "Science ON" meeting was to raise awareness of the benefits of balanced compound krill in salmon feed diets and scientific evidence. In addition, technological advances as Eco-Harvesting, allowing near zero by-catch, was on the agenda and access to the MSC Marine Stewardship Council ensuring that the supply of this raw material is sustainable over time.
