New study confirms growth effect of astaxanthin krill oil on Pacific white shrimp

Shrimp farmers seek growth and feed efficiency for their crops, but this can be challenging when water salinity concentration in commercial ponds is high. In a new study, now published in the Journal of Applied Aquaculture, scientists from Instituto de Ciências do Mar (Labomar), Brazil and Aker BioMarine evaluate whether high salinity conditions can be offset with the dietary supplementation of astaxanthin krill oil and soybean oil.

Krill meal improves salmon health and fillet quality, according to new study

The Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture (Nofima), in collaboration with Aker BioMarine, recently released a study looking into the health and fillet quality of Atlantic salmon after a period of dietary krill supplementation. The study, now published in the British Journal of Nutrition, investigates the health parameters and meat quality of Atlantic salmon fed a diet where fish meal was substituted with krill meal during the finishing feeding period. Overall results reveal that krill meal improved the welfare and fillet quality of the salmon.

New study: krill supplementation in olive flounder diets enhances growth and disease resistance

Researchers from Jeju National University’s Department of Marine Life Sciences recently published their findings on the effects of krill (Euphausia superba) in fish meal diets given to olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) in South Korea. The objective of their study was to examine the response of the fish to different levels of krill added to a low fish meal diet (28% inclusion of fish meal).

Thomas Wærner The New Iditarod Champion 2020

Thomas Wærner and his dog team win the legendary Iditarod race 2020. After competing for over 9 days with 57 professional dog teams and the unpredictable nature of Alaska, the orange team was the first to cross the finish line in Nome. Aker BioMarine’s Krill Fishery Receives an ‘A’ Rating For the Fifth Year in a Row

For the fifth year in a row, Aker BioMarine has received an ‘A’ rating from the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP), meaning its krill fishery is in “very good condition.” SFP is an independent non-profit organization that evaluates the sustainability of global fisheries. Each year, the SFP releases a Reduction Fisheries Sustainability Overview which analyzes reduction fishery stocks worldwide.

New large-scale Antarctic krill survey confirms healthy krill biomass

New international research surveying the krill biomass around the Antarctic Peninsula finds more krill than was found in the last large-scale krill survey conducted in year 2000.

New study shows krill is the most effective growth enhancer in diets for whiteleg shrimp

With the shrimp farming industry increasingly moving towards low fishmeal content feeds, practical feed formulations depend on meals, solubles and hydrolysates made from fish, squid, shrimp, krill and molluscs to act as chemoattractants and feeding stimulants. But with such a wide array of options, identifying the optimal marine chemoattractant for a species like whiteleg shrimp has proven incredibly difficult. Until now.
