Study insight

A sustainable growth of the aquaculture sector implies the use of sustainable novel raw materials as replacement of the traditional fish meal (FM) and fish oil (FO) ingredients. This fact will lead to the development of functional diets as part of a management strategy to reduce the effects on fish growth performance and health derived from low FM/FO dietary contents. In this sense, krill meal (Euphausia superba) is a candidate to potentiate fish growth and health status.

Poster presentation - not to be missed

Title: Benefits of Krill meal inclusion in shrimp diets
by Dr. Lena Burri

This poster reviews the latest studies with krill that were performed in Brazil, Thailand and India where growth performance, feed preference, hepatopancreas condition and feed formulation costs were in focus.

Meet our variety of experts at the booth

Aker BioMarine scientists Tibiabin Benitez-Santana, Director R&D, Fish Nutrition and Lena Burri, Director R&D, Animal Nutrition and Health are ready to answer all questions related to physiology, science and studies.

Geronimo Leonardi, Sales Director – QRILL Latin America and Ian Bouchard, VP QRILL Americas, can guide you on commercial aspects and how krill can benefit species in your region.

Why krill?

Krill is a fascinating crustacean. Full of essential nutrients, krill is found at the bottom of the food chain, meaning it consists of a very low contaminant-level. It is a sustainable source of protein, containing omega-3 phospholipids, feed attractants and astaxanthin. Research is key in understanding how, when and where the effects of krill is at its best. Studies are done on a variety of farmed species and krill is used in diets for fish and shrimp all around the world.
