Aker BioMarine Named Norway’s Most Innovative Business

Blog overview

June 14, 2017, Oslo – Aker BioMarine, a biotech innovator and Antarctic krill harvesting company dedicated to improving human and planetary health, has been named as Norway’s most innovative company by Innovasjonsmagasinet, Norway’s leading innovation magazine.

Innovasjonsmagasinet ranked 25 of Norway’s most innovative companies and for the first time, Aker BioMarine was named as Norway’s most innovative business. Itera, Nortura, Norwegian, Kahoot! and Schibsted were also on the list for 2017 and DNV GL took the title home in 2016.

“We are proud of this recognition and honored to be named with these other outstanding Norwegian companies. It is remarkable that the job we are doing in the omega-3 market is recognized alongside of these other businesses and industries. We are committed to innovation, product development and new technology and as a pioneer in the field of krill harvesting in the Antarctica, our goal is to improve human and planetary health,” says Matts Johansen, CEO of Aker BioMarine.

The jury stated that: “Aker BioMarine, an integrated biotechnology company, has taken a global market leader position in krill-based ingredients. Aker BioMarine’s recognition as a top innovator is a result of many things. Sustainability and traceability are imperative to their business model and the company has complete control over its value chain. Innovation and education are key driving forces behind the company’s success. And most importantly, Aker BioMarine would not be where it is today without the engagement of its diverse and hungry team and their impressive ability to innovate at all levels.”

The editorial board of the Innovation magazine is behind the annual award and has involved independent experts in the evaluation. In addition, the magazine’s readers contributed with suggestions and tips to businesses within the categories: Startups and Leading Norwegian Innovation Companies. The result is a list of the most innovative Norwegian businesses.

“We think this list and awards nomination is Norway’s most comprehensive overview of the country’s most innovative companies. Common to most of these businesses is that they have succeeded in expanding their market to cover large parts of the world,” says the head of the jury Truls Berg, the editor of Innovation magazine.
