What is QRILL Aqua?

QRILL Aqua is prepared from an extract of ground whole Antarctic krill that is cooked and dried, resulting in a brownish-orange powder containing around 60 percent protein with a nutritionally well-balanced amino acid profile. It is a sustainable source of protein, omega-3 phospholipids, feed attractants and astaxanthin. The benefits of including this ingredient in fish feeds are many:

Fresh and natural

QRILL Aqua products are all made from fresh krill and the crew harvest as long as the Antarctic season and CCMLAR regulatory allows. As a result of their diet, krill have different fat and protein content throughout the year. Early in the season – after feeding on algae, the krill are often low in fat but high in protein. Midseason, fat content is higher due feeding on plankton. Being that QRILL Aqua products are all natural they vary in composition levels depending on the season of harvest.

Why krill is an important player in the future protein solution

The globe is facing serious challenges. Our planet currently faces a triple threat of global warming, overpopulation, and exploitation of resources, creating a scenario that puts our future food supply in jeopardy. Among the greatest challenges is finding good sources of proteins. Proteins serves as fundamental building blocks for cells and tissues – making them essential for all living organisms. Animals need it for the muscles, blood cells, immune cells, and the overall bodily functions, like growth and development. Humans and fish alike need to consume proteins regularly to get the energy and nutrition needed to grow and function.

The Aker BioMarine team will be on-site at Aqua Sur from 19-21 March. Hosted at TMP Logistics Center in Puerto Montt, Chile, Aqua Sur is a major industry event that brings together the international players in aquaculture, from both the supply and demand side.
